Terminal service allows the user perform task that are too complicated for desktop PC but is normal for a huge computer server or cluster of servers. Terminal computer doesn't have to be powerful. Even 10 old computer could be a terminal pc, because terminal software just transfer image of remote desktop from terminal server to the user and send keyboard and mouse events of user to the terminal server. That's all!
Terminals appeared in 60-70th and were a common thing in the past. Computers were too expensive so many people works on the same computer at the same time. Terminal server allows many users to connect the computer simultaneously and input and output data using own terminal.
